The expansion of the Panama Canal is one of the largest works being developed at the present time. The biggest and most successful construction companies in the world are working there. It is a source of great price for Constructora Meco to have participated since 1997 in works for the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), together with Corporation M&S. The works in the Canal have taught us to perform work meeting first-world requirements as to size, term, quality, occupational safety and environmental respect.
In December 2008 we were engaged to build the third of the five largest earthwork projects for expansion of the Canal, called “North Pacific Expansion Channel-PAC3 Project”, which includes an excavation of 7,984,000 m3 of material and the clean-up of 190 hectares contaminated with South Commando undetonated munitions. At the conclusion of the ACP PAC 3 grants the calificacion 10 to Meco, its highest in the prevention of occupational hazards.
Thanks to the success achieved in the implementation of these projects, we were awarded in 2009 a contract, in consortium with the companies ICA from Mexico and FFC from Spain, to perform the work of excavation of four kilometers to build a new access channel for the Canal, known as CAP4 and dam 2.5 kilometers in length, which is the second contract by economic volume of the Panama Canal expansion plan.
This experience of more than 10 years has placed in a privileged position to be part of the works of world magnitude currently developed in Panama.
