The rescue of runway 03L-21R at Tocumen Airport was a vital work since this is the most important airport in Central America with peaks of up to 64 flights per hour. The project consisted of the structural repair of the runway with the latest technology asphalt mixes, used for the first time in Latin America. This polymer-modified asphalt mix with cellulose fiber is a common European standard at their airports. Furthermore, the project included the challenge to make this work in an airport with continuous operation, which required millimeter planning of each stage.
